When it comes to video games there's games out there that both you and your children can play (and you won't get totally frustrated with your children either.....unless they beat you.)
I've put together a list of a few titles that you can play either across different platforms or some of them together side by side on the couch.
1. Roblox
Okay so don't come at me for this one and give it a chance. Every Mum knows the dreaded question of "Can I have Robux?" and you finally give in and buy them some as a reward only for them to spend it all on ridiculous amounts of eggs on Pet Simulator X.
But! I promise you there is games on this platform that you could enjoy for a few minutes with your kids as they put on their captain's hat and provide you with every instruction ever needed to play whatever game you click on (It also allows you to monitor what they're actually playing).
2. Mario Party Franchise
Now this takes me back to my childhood. The days of playing this with my Mum and brothers and suffering from blisters in the middle of our palms as we tried to spin the N64 controller joysticks as fast as we could to win those mini games.
Atleast with the Switch Joycons we're now saved from that pain.
Seriously any Mario Party game is an absolute hoot to play with your children - the most immersive boardgame turned video game you could find. The goal is to collect the most stars before the turns run out and whoever has the most at the end wins. This is while your trying to collect coins through mini games just to buy the stars (or steal them from everyone else).
Just watch out for any arguments to ensue if you steal your kids star or they all gang up on you instead.
3. Minecraft
Minecraft is one of those games where your child will absolutely blow your mind with what they can create. Here I am when I started building a perfectly square house while my kids out there building castles and giant versions of their favourite characters. Minecraft takes a while for you to understand the basic mechanics but the amount of freedom, creativity and problem-solving skills it brings is astounding!
And of course, you've got your children to show you the ropes.
4. Just Dance
Just Dance is the best to get you and children up and on your feet! The different Just Dance games provide you a variety of songs where you can follow the prompts to dance along too as you aim to get that perfect score.
Just Dance not only gets you and your kids moving it's also a whole lot of fun, my 2 year old even joined in as she jumped around holding the controller.
5. Fortnite
So to be honest I usually get their Dad to play Fortnite with them but that's only because I totally suck. But Fortnite is actually a pretty good game and I've come to find this is probably the most popular game between my school aged child and all his friends.
Fortnite is a Battle Royale type shooter where you can team up with 4 of your friends.
Just watch out for all those extra costs your kid will ask you for which includes the battle pass, skins, emotes.... it's never ending.
If your a seasoned gamer Mum or want to spend some quality time with your gamer kids and find out what interests them so much, have a go at the above titles mentioned.
Your kids won't be disappointed!
